Day 233 – Celebrity 365: Starring Alton Brown!

Woo hoo! I’ve got a celebrity guest star in my 365 shot!
I bought Rob tickets to go see Alton Brown for his birthday a few weeks back. We’re big fans of "Good Eats" and watch the Food Network frequently.
Alton’s show was awesome, he did a demonstration about cooking with crystals (sugar) and how temperatures affect them, plus an hour long Q&A session afterwards. The demo part was great, with everything from super high heated syrups to make cotton candy to liquid nitrogen cooled ice cream! We learned a lot, laughed a whole lot more and really enjoyed ourselves.
There was a book signing after the show, but we didn’t manage to get in line soon enough to buy a book to get it signed. There was a lady from the venue being a camera-nazi and freaking out anytime someone took pictures, saying "No photography! No flash photography! Mr. Brown has asked that there be no photographs!" about every 5 minutes.
Of course, this didn’t stop anyone from taking pictures, and I got a stealthy self-portrait with Alton in the background. After about half an hour she was reprimanded by Alton Brown himself when he heard her barking at the crowd. "No, I asked that there be no flash photography during the show. They can take all the pictures they want now…" he said sternly to the camera-nazi-lady and put her in her place!
The lighting in the hall was terrible, and flash just made it worse so you get a montage of my self-portrait and a couple of the better shots of Alton doing some signings…

WOW! He is my fave FoodTV celeb, hands down. In fact, I am TiVoing the grillin’ show at this moment to capture his tuna on a charcoal chimney recipe. I had it and the ex-wife deleted it out of vengeance.
You are the lucky-duckiest…. or at least Rob is.
mmm… Alton Brown, makes me hungry!

You watch the Food Network too? Haha that’s funny. Cool, that you met your favorite chef as well. You’ll have to tell me about this sometime.
He’s our inspiration, not only for having revolutionized the way we roast beef, but also for the PROPS he uses on his shows. That’s Kim’s contribution to our community theater effort, she’s the Empress of Props. Alton’s props always look like they’re something meant for a seventh-grade musical comedy. They are the BEST.
Hi, I’m an admin for a group called Alton Brown, Medium Rare, and we’d love to have your photo added to the group.
Please also consider joining our group there are lots of cool pics. FYI, simply saying yes to add the picture does not add you to the group unfortunately. Thanks!
