OUR PHILOSOPHY: HARNESS THE POWER OF NATURE TO CREATE CLEAN ALTERNATIVES
The Importance of Energy Efficiency
Solutions to global warming and other ecological concerns begin with improving energy efficiency. This is the action of making all human energy consumption efficient by decreasing unnecessary energy usage and using more effective resources for the needed energy requirements. This involves altering the way people power their homes, vehicles and businesses. Some have championed energy efficiency as a solution to the global warming problem, as well as other issues related to energy security and fossil fuel depletion.
These ideas have been discussed since the 1970s, with many influential scientists emphasizing that energy resources should not be increased but the efficiency in which it is used should be maximized. In the same decade some studies were done on the state of California that implemented new energy-efficiency measures. The state’s energy consumption remained stagnant while the rest of the country’s consumption rates doubled.
The problem in modern society is that big companies prefer to generate new power (even new power sources) instead of doing more to create a national energy policy that will increase the efficiency of energy production. Studies have shown that there is tremendous opportunity for companies to save money by changing their energy policies in this regard, particularly in saving on lighting, fan and pump systems. In fact, some sources speculate that 75% of the electricity used in America is excess and could be eliminated using these efficiency measures.
Many Americans have saw the need for change and have looked into energy efficiency as well as solar powered alternatives. The U.S. Department of Energy has also investigated the manner and has provided numerous tips for the everyday consumer. Some of these include buying special equipment, such as a programmable thermostat that automatically adjusts to the temperature of your home based on the outside temperature; energy-efficient lighting (for example through Compact Fluorescent Lights or Light Emitting Diode technology); and doing some insulation work on air ducts and ventilation systems.
These solutions may be perceived as simple measures and it is true to some extent that before any major changes can be made, larger corporations and influential people must take action. However, it is also true that if every American family paid closer attention to these areas on their own, then the total amount of unnecessary energy consumption could be significantly reduced. If you are interested in becoming more energy efficient (not just for the good of the country but as a consumer frustrated with high electricity bills) then start applying some of these household tips and keep looking for energy-efficient products.
