OUR PHILOSOPHY: HARNESS THE POWER OF NATURE TO CREATE CLEAN ALTERNATIVES

Waste Management and a Cleaner Environment

Waste management is closely connected with energy efficiency and other projects designed to improve the quality of the earth. Recycling options and clean disposal are just one of many ways to take a “greener” approach to your every day business. Waste management involves all aspects of waste, from the choosing of products, transporting, processing, recycling and disposing of unwanted items. Waste management must be taken seriously as certain forms of refuse can have significant affect on the environment and even one’s own health.

There are specific ways in which owners dispose of solids, liquid, gases any radioactive substances. While the disposal of non-hazardous residential or institutional waste is usually the job of local government, industrial waste must be taken care of by the generator, or owner of the business. Some common forms of disposal methods include landfill, which is burying waste, and incineration, which involves the combustion of waste material. Both forms of waste disposal can be abused, depending on the manner in which it is employed and the waste material that is being used.

Recycling is the act of extracting resources from the waste instead of disposing of it. Some environmentally conscious products are made with material that can be used over and over again, thus eliminating the need for more landfill or incineration. This process includes physical reprocessing, biological reprocessing and energy recovery. The latter of these technologies actually harnesses waste as a form of fuel energy.

One more important factor in waste management is that of avoidance and reduction. This stresses the reduction of waste material being created in the first place. Methods may involve reusing second-hand products rather than destroying them, repairing broken items rather than buying new merchandise and designing new products to be either refillable or reusable. This movement also discourages consumers from buying products created by companies that are not easily recyclable or reusable in some way. Additionally, companies can invest in material reduction of their products, by using less overall material to create the same product. For example, lighter plates or beer cans.

Bad recycling products include things like wax products, paper lunch bags, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, regular pencils and other paper products. Instead of buying these types of products, try to take a more efficient view of your supplies. For instance, it is far more efficient to use email instead of printing office notes. When printing, try and use both sides of the printer paper. Reuse as many containers and other storing items as long as possible. Shopping in bulk is also a good idea since you reduce the amount of packaging materials used overall. These small steps can take you a long way in effecting waste management.
